Event Details

Join us for a cross-cultural celebration of eclectic East London cuisine.

Each of the 60 guests cooks and brings a dish of global food found in the local one mile radius of Guest Projects.

We share everything.

Our culinary collectivity straddles the boundary of Hackney and Tower Hamlets and includes the diverse cultural flavours of British (East End English), Turkish, Ghanaian, Bangladeshi and Vietnamese cooking.

How it works:

You choose one dish to cook (starter, main or dessert) from the five nationalities (listed above) to serve six people.

PLEASE BOOK YOUR TICKETS ONE AT A TIME SO YOU CAN CHECK THE BOXES ON THE BOOKING FORM FOR WHICH COURSE AND WHICH NATIONALITY OF DISH YOU WILL BRING.

(all British courses are now booked)

(all Turkish courses are now booked)

(all Ghanaian mains are now booked)

(all Bangladeshi mains are now booked)

(all Vietnamese starters are now booked)

The meal will be split into 6 sequential courses -
2 sets of starters, 2 mains & 2 desserts.

(Guests will swap places between meals)

Each course will contain 2 dishes from each of the 5 localglobal cuisines: British (East End English), Turkish, Ghanaian, Bangladeshi and Vietnamese.

We all then feast on these 5 pairs of national dishes, once course at a time.

Guests are asked to present their dish with a 10-second summary of what they cooked and why.
Cultural research and anecodotes and stories are all encouraged

We will be keeping a tally of who books what dish so that we get an even spread.

N.B. no dish = no entry

Our culinary localglobal adventure only works if everyone contributes.

If you can't come please make sure you inform us and/or find a friend to take your place.

Tickets for the LocalGlobal Thanksgiving are free and there will be a cash bar run by Guest Projects on the night.

We look forward to welcoming you to our East London Style Thanksgiving.

Latitudinal Cuisine is a series of co-created meals that embrace eclectic and communual eating. On this occasion the evening is being kindly hosted by Guest Projects, Yinka Shonibare's beautiful gallery space overlooking Regents Canal in Broadway Market, E8.

Ok so we're very nearly booked out folks and we're getting into tricky territory trying to juggle everyone's chosen courses to match our rather carefully calculated eating programme.

Sorry to those that have been asked to rebook their tickets, we really do want an even spread of nationaliites and courses so we're curating this meal very tightly.

I hope you all enjoy experimenting in the kitchen with cuisines you haven't tried out before - embrace the newness!

Friday, November 12, 2010

FYI: All Ghanaian mains are now booked.

Happy weekend one and all. Hope you have fun researching your recipes for the 27th.

All British courses are booked out - huzzah!

N.B. Just as a pointer: since we're celebrating East End culture it would be great if all you Brit chefs could cook something that derives from the East End of London somehow, rather than Britain in general.

Thanks muchly. Salivating already.

Hello LocalGlobal revellers,

Latest newsflash: all British Starters and Mains have now been booked.

Hope there's some Vietnamese and Ghanaian food lovers still out there...

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Wow, nearly half the tickets have been booked in under two days - impressive!

British + Turkish cuisines have proved very popular - both starters for those two nationalities are now fully booked.

Vietnamese is the lonely one in the corner. Noodles anyone? Surely they are super simple + fun to make?

Monday, November 8, 2010

Turkish is proving very popular.

We only have 1 main and 2 desserts available.

The Vietnamese culinary challenge, on the other hand, is wide open!

Monday, November 8, 2010

Hey localglobal peeps

FYI: Turkish starters are all taken.

There are four available dishes to cook per nationality and per course. e.g. 4 Turkish starters.

We'll be updating the bookings list with everyone's choices and letting you know when courses are fully booked.
